Dentist well-being depends on more than crisis intervention. Strong state support systems include a full continuum—from wellness and lifestyle programs to peer support, early intervention, and, when necessary, structured clinical monitoring.
At NCDHP, we believe every state should have an integrated approach to supporting dentists—one that addresses stress, burnout, substance use, and mental health before they reach a point of impairment.
We are currently assessing how these systems function across the U.S., including which states offer truly comprehensive support and where critical gaps exist. This page will expand as we gather and analyze more data. Our goal is to provide tools and guidance to help State Dental Societies and related partners build stronger, more responsive well-being infrastructures for their dental communities.
The American Dental Association maintains a comprehensive directory of state monitoring programs designed to assist dentists facing substance use, behavioral health, or professional impairment concerns. These programs offer confidential help tailored to the needs of dental professionals. Use the link below to locate your state’s program and learn more about available resources.
