Peer Support & Recovery

Peer support, recovery resources, and professional well-being programs can play an important role in supporting dentists, dental students, and their families. The resources below provide information about peer support pathways, recovery communities, and additional well-being resources available within the profession.

Find Your State Dentist Health Program

State dental societies maintain confidential dentist health and well-being programs that provide peer support, assistance with help-seeking, referral resources, and professional support services for dentists, dental students, and their families.

Use the American Dental Association's directory below to locate your state dental society and available dentist health program resources.

A flyer listing other ADA resources for dental professional well-being can be downloaded below (under Additional Resources).

IDAA

IDAA is a worldwide fellowship of healthcare professionals and their families affected by substance use and related disorders. Founded in 1949, IDAA’s mission is to carry the message of recovery to healthcare professionals and their families.

IDAA provides a confidential and supportive peer community focused on recovery, wellness, and professional connection. Resources include virtual and in-person recovery meetings, educational programming, speaker meetings, family support resources, peer networking, archived conference recordings, and an annual conference for healthcare professionals in recovery.

IDAA supports multiple recovery pathways and welcomes healthcare professionals and family members from diverse professional, cultural, spiritual, and personal backgrounds. IDAA operates independently and is not affiliated with disciplinary or licensing entities, state monitoring programs, government agencies, or Alcoholics Anonymous.

NCDHP shares these resources as part of its commitment to promoting well-being, peer support, recovery resources, and early help-seeking within the dental profession.
