NCDHP advances the field by documenting what exists, identifying what is missing, and sharing what works. This page brings together our survey findings, state support system resources, and presentations and publications from NCDHP leadership.
Dentist health depends on more than crisis intervention. Strong state support systems include a full continuum — from wellness and lifestyle programs to peer support, early intervention, and, when necessary, structured clinical monitoring.
NCDHP believes every state should have an integrated approach to supporting dentists that addresses stress, burnout, substance use, and mental health before they reach a point of impairment. Our goal is to provide tools and guidance to help state dental societies and their partners build stronger, more responsive well-being infrastructures for their dental communities.
The American Dental Association maintains a comprehensive directory of state monitoring programs designed to assist dentists facing substance use, behavioral health, or professional impairment concerns. Use the link below to locate your state's program.
NCDHP conducts surveys of state dental societies and dental boards to understand how professional well-being initiatives intersect with regulatory processes. Together, these surveys provide a national picture of current approaches, emerging needs, and opportunities to strengthen systems that support dental professionals and protect the public.
For State Dental Societies
The 2025 State Dental Society Survey examined how well-being initiatives and regulatory processes are currently aligned at the state level. The full report and supporting materials are available for download below.
For State Dental Boards
Some state dental boards were not included in the initial survey distribution. Boards that would like to review the survey, participate, or learn more are encouraged to connect with us. A report summarizing board responses will be posted here when available.
