NCDHP defines the full continuum and helps states build it—working alongside PHPs and PAPs where they exist and filling the gaps where they don't.

What a complete dentist health system includes

Wellness & lifestyle support

Peer support & early intervention

Peer support & early intervention

Non‑clinical programs addressing stress, burnout, and overall wellbeing before problems escalate.

Peer support & early intervention

Peer support & early intervention

Peer support & early intervention

Confidential outreach, clinical triage, and coordinated referral—the core of an effective dental society program.

Structured clinical monitoring

Peer support & early intervention

Structured clinical monitoring

Formal monitoring for dentists in recovery or under board oversight—through a PHP, PAP, or equivalent.

NCDHP's role

  • We define the core components of effective dentist health systems.
  • We help states assess gaps and build missing elements.
  • We align dental societies, PHPs/PAPs, and boards around a shared structure.

Why systems fall short

  • Programs exist, but dentists don’t enter them early.
  • Referral paths are unclear or inconsistent.
  • Support and oversight are often fragmented.

Every state needs a full continuum of dentist health support

Most states have pieces. Few have a complete system. NCDHP defines the full continuum and helps states build it—working alongside PHPs and PAPs where they exist and filling the gaps where they don't.
